Jewelry Box Rehab
My mom gave me this jewelry box years ago and I've managed to fill it to the brim over the years. However, the finish did not go with anything in my house so I kept it in my closet. So, after unloading it and putting all my jewelry on my guest bed for two weeks...
I decided to refinish it, because KILZ can transform anything.
I sanded down the finish a little bit with a palm sander and brushed on a couple coats of KILZ latex primer. I was going to spray it but the wind was high in Chicago that night so I opted for the brush. I used Martha Stewart's Living latex paint in semi-gloss ivory.
I mixed Behr Faux Glaze with some basic black acrylic tube paint and lightly brushed it over the paint finish. This was a bit tricky. After trial and error I used 0000 steel wool within minutes of applying the glaze to get the look I wanted. Rub in the glaze and massage it until you get the desired results!
I refinished the knobs by taking them all out and spray painting them with Rust-Oleum "Carbon Mist". Use chopsticks and a cardboard box to hold them.
Finish with a couple coats of Poly, and I sanded in between with 0000 steel wool for extra lustre, and Ta Da!

I am a mad crafter myself (in the middle of a chip-bag purse http://candywrapperpurse.blogspot.com/) and am eyeing the latest Restoration Hardware catalog, not to buy anything, but to use the pages to mod podge everything in sight! I love these posts, am going to go back through everything you made. So inspiring!
